The way the process usually works is that I give Dark Horse a bunch of ideas when (or if) I have a synopsis of the story. Sometimes it’s too close to the main cover or they want something different represented, but I usually give them a bunch of ideas. More next month.
I completed a Buffy cover with Karl Story for the 48th Edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.
Here’s the official information from Gemstone:
We are pleased to announce that the 48th Edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is now available for pre-order! This year’s edition features an incredible Green Lantern & Flash cover by superstar artist Ethan Van Sciver, and an awesome movie poster styled tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Planet of the Apes by the incomparable Ryan Sook!
Also in this year’s lineup is the spiral-bound workbook edition Big Big Comic Book Price Guide with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cover by long-time Buffy comic book artist Georges Jeanty.
All editions are scheduled for an on-sale date of July 18, 2018.
Blumhouse, the production company mostly known for horror favorites The Purge and Get Out, taps John Ridley to write and direct a movie adaptation of The American Way: Those Above and Those Below. Keep your eyes on this!
Buffy Season 12 is coming your way on June 20, 2018! Here’s one of my variant covers for issue #1. Joss Whedon and Christos Gage are the writers and I will be providing variant covers and art for all four issues. The official title is “Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning” and will be the culmination of all the Buffy seasons!
Here’s the synopsis from Dark Horse:
Following the world-altering finale of Season 11, Buffy and the Scoobies have had a laid-back year in the saving-the-world department. But as they’ve learned over their years of fighting the forces of darkness and thwarting many an apocalypse, nothing stays quiet for long. When Dawn and Xander’s housewarming party is crashed by some familiar faces with news of an amassing force that must be reckoned with—Wolfram & Hart, a legion of demons, and Harth, a vampire from the future—Buffy finds herself in a time warp that could alter the fate of the world and could spell the end for Buffy, her friends, and the Slayers, forever.
This action-packed miniseries reunites the Buffyverse with the return of Angel, Faith, Illyria, and Fray, the Slayer from the future!
Apologies! Denver Comic Con had me swamped. I have a few pictures to share from DCC later this week, but in the meantime:

Almost forgot to tell you that I have another Buffy fill-in coming your way soon. Season 11 #9 comes out on July 19 and features everyone’s favorite “bad” Slayer, Faith Lehane! The variant cover is below.
Also, Denver Comic Con 2017 is doing a reunion of Buffy “Baddies” with James Marsters, Juliet Landau, Clare Kramer and Mercedes McNab. Whedonverse alumni Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day will also be appearing. I did an exclusive for them that’s available on their merch website now.
I will be appearing at Denver Comic Con, June 30-July 2. They are doing a reunion of Buffy “Baddies” with James Marsters, Juliet Landau, Clare Kramer and Mercedes McNab. Whedonverse alumni Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day will also be appearing.
I’ve enjoyed working with Denver Comic Con over the years providing designs for their Captain Colorado character as well as their exclusives. All monies from their event go to their parent organization, Pop Culture Classroom. A non-profit that provides literacy programs using comic books, graphic novels, and board games as a way to engage kids and young adults.
Welcome to the Summer of 2017! Hopefully, you will have time to hit the beach, cookout, go to amusement parks and so on. If you got to stick around and work hard for the money … then that’s cool, too. But if you find yourself able to attend HeroesCon, Denver Comic Con, Florida Super Con, Raleigh Supercon or DragonCon — those will be my Summer 2017 shows — so please stop by my table and say hello.
Also, I would like to thank all who entered the Buffy Coloring Contest. The contest closed on Monday, June 5th and we are now reviewing entries. The winner will be announced during Denver Comic Con weekend (June 30 – July 2) probably on that Sunday because that tends to be a less busy day. We’re going to try to video our reviews of the entries and post it to the KabaLounge website and social media.
After Denver Comic Con ends, July 5th marks the return of comic book property that’s close and dear to me: The American Way. As you know John Ridley and I worked on the original comic book mini-series in 2006. Since then, John has continued his success in Hollywood, winning an Academy Award for ’12 Years a Slave’ and is the creator/ showrunner of the critically acclaimed anthology series ‘American Crime.’
It’s an honor to reunite with John to bring you the next chapter of the New American as he tries to keep communities safe amid the social turmoil of the 1970s. I’ve included a few preview pages below. Enjoy and hope to see you around this Summer!
Today marks the 20th Anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s television debut as Buffy Summers set out to change the world and empowered others to do the same. These days, those adventures continue in the world of comic books and graphic novels that myself and other talented artists have the honor of being a part of.
Thank you Joss Whedon for being the pioneer that held on to your vision as this creation was brought to the TV screen and Sarah, Alyson, Nicholas, David, Anthony, James and other contributors who brought those heroes to life. Happy 20th Anniversary Buffy!
